Artificial intelligence continues to impact our daily lives. Now, even the cinema industry is starting to use this technology to provide viewers with greater realism. For example, an upcoming biopic about Édith Piaf will use an AI to reproduce the artist’s voice and narrate the story.

AI brings Édith Piaf’s voice back to life
A true icon of French music, Édith Piaf continues to fascinate audiences more than 60 years after her death. That’s why a new film project dedicated to La Môme Piaf is in the works. Warner Music and the artist’s estate have already revealed a few secrets about this biopic, simply titled Édith. This movie is an “innovative technological project using AI to recreate their voice and image”, says the record company. It’s the same process used to produce the documentary series The Andy Warhol Diaries, broadcast on Netflix.
To achieve this, the AI feeds on “hundreds of vocal extracts and images, some of which date back over 80 years, bringing Piaf’s distinct voice and image to life to reinforce the authenticity and emotional impact of her story”, Warner Music continues.

Archival footage and original songs
The biopic on the life of Édith Piaf will also be enriched with archive footage, stage performances and personal images of the artist, offering an authentic look at her eventful life. Fans of La Môme Piaf will also have the pleasure of hearing extracts of Piaf’s original voice.
No release date has yet been announced. More than 15 years after the triumph of the film La Vie en Rose (Olivier Dahan), which won 5 Césars and 2 Oscars, a new chapter in the legend of Édith Piaf is about to hit the big screen.
