British manufacturer Cambridge is revamping its Cambridge Evo connected amplifier with a magnificent limited edition, paying homage to the legendary DeLorean DMC12 from the 1980s!

Luxurious, iconic design

The Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean Edition inaugurates a collection of limited editions inspired by the famous DeLorean carmaker that marked its era. This special DeLorean edition celebrates a timeless journey with its sublime all-metal chassis inspired by the legendary DeLorean DMC12. The sides of the unit are interchangeable, with the option of brushed metal or metallic grille-adorned panels, evoking the grille of the vehicle driven by Marty McFly. The front panel still features the large 6.8″ color screen. The latter can display the selected source, as well as the cover art and information on the tracks currently playing.

Two worlds meet

The automotive and hi-fi worlds are closely connected, with frequent partnerships between renowned manufacturers. For example, Klipsch partnered with the McLaren Formula 1 team, adding the team’s colors to its Klipsch McLaren Legends speaker range. McLaren’s premium section also joined forces with B&W (McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins: the start of a long partnership), with the B&W Px8 McLaren Edition Bluetooth headphones. Bang & Olufsen’s automotive partners are just as prestigious, with illustrious brands such as Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ford Mustang. The manufacturer is also the official partner of Ferrari’s Formula 1 racing team. In France, Focal frequently equips numerous vehicles, most recently the DS9. With the Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean Edition amplifier, the British manufacturer continues this tradition, managing to team up with an automotive and film icon, much to the delight of all fans.

Limited to just 1000 units, the Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean Edition amp is a true collector’s item for car, hi-fi and film enthusiasts.

High amplification power

Despite the absence of the Back to the Future vehicle’s nuclear fission convector, this limited edition DeLorean Cambridge EVO 150 manages to power any pair of floorstanding speakers or bookshelves effectively. To achieve this, it uses the same elements as its predecessor, with a Class D power stage capable of developing up to 2 x 150W RMS into 8 ohms. The amplifier benefits from Hypex Ncore modules developed by Hypex Electronics to guarantee dynamic, precise sound and an extremely rapid impulse response. They are also combined with an oversized power supply to provide a high-quality current and ensure a high energy reserve.

With 2 x 150W of powerful amplification power into 8 ohms, the DeLorean Cambridge EVO 150 amplifier will power any pair of bookshelf or floorstanding speakers.

Integrated network player

The Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean amp combines the design of the DMC12 from the 1980s with state-of-the-art technology, including its own network player. Based on a StreamMagic Gen 4 module identical to that used in the Cambridge CXN100 streamer,it can play music shared over the local network via DLNA/UPnP and Roon Ready, but can also access countless web radios and online music services such as Qobuz, Tidal and Spotify Connect. It is also possible to stream via AirPlay 2, Chromecast or Bluetooth aptX HD.

Thanks to its integrated network player, the Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean amplifier can easily play and receive digital music, as well as access numerous streaming services.

Full connectivity

Looking to the future, the DeLorean Cambridge EVO 150 amplifier features comprehensive connectivity to meet all the needs of a modern installation. Connectors include HDMI ARC, USB-B, USB-A, RCA, Phono, XLR and coaxial inputs, plus two optical ports. This makes it easy to connect a wide range of sources, such as TVs, computers, turntables and CD/SACD players, including the Cambridge Audio EVO CD, which makes an ideal partner. Finally, a 3.5mm mini-jack output on the front panel lets you enjoy your music on headphones.

The extensive range of connectors of the DeLorean Cambridge EVO 150 amplifier means it can be used with many sources, including a TV in HDMI ARC mode, or a computer in USB DAC mode.

A very limited edition

The new Cambridge EVO 150 DeLorean amplifier is now available for pre-order at €2,490 on Son-Vidéo.com, for delivery from April 2024. Limited to just 1,000 units worldwide, it should stand the test of time and become a true collector’s item, just like the DeLorean to which it pays homage.
