At a time when the auto industry is gradually learning to drive in silence, Aston Martin seems to have decided to turn the volume knob the other way. Unveiled during Monterey Car Week 2026, the new Aston Martin Valen isn’t content with just having the most powerful engine ever installed in the front of an Aston Martin. It transforms its exhaust into a true musical instrument, with outlets specifically tuned like the pipes of an organ. It’s a particularly spectacular way to remind us that the internal combustion engine can still deliver emotions that no spec sheet can truly quantify.
An 850PS V12 as a starting point
Under the massive front hood lies the latest evolution of Aston Martin’s famous 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. It now produces 850PS and 1,000 Nm of torque, available starting at 2,500 RPM. All this power is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox featuring shift strategies derived from the Vantage GT4 race car.
The Valen accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in just 3 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 344 km/h. These are impressive figures, but paradoxically, they aren’t the most interesting aspect of the car. Today, electric vehicles can accelerate even more abruptly. Aston Martin is therefore looking elsewhere for what makes a car truly spectacular: the driving experience, the engineering, and above all, the sound. And on this last point, the British brand clearly didn’t hold back.

An exhaust system designed like a musical instrument
The rear of the Aston Martin Valen is dominated by a spectacular titanium quad tailpipe exhaust system developed exclusively for this model. Two tailpipes are positioned in the traditional lower section of the diffuser, while the other two are mounted much higher, directly in the center of the tail. The two upper exhausts remain open at all times, while the lower two are equipped with valves whose opening varies depending on the driving mode. The tailpipes are made of titanium using 3D printing, combining low weight, complex shapes, and resistance to extremely high temperatures.
Aston Martin explains that it specifically designed the two upper tailpipes to resemble organ pipes. Just like with an organ, the length and shape of the exhaust directly influence the frequencies that are emphasized. The goal here is to create resonance effects as the V12 revs up in order to enhance certain harmonics and gradually increase the sound’s presence. The Valen resembles a true mobile organ, with its engine acting as the wind chest.

Progression crafted like a crescendo
Aston Martin has fine-tuned the overall acoustic response by reducing certain low frequencies while enhancing the presence of higher frequencies. The automaker is seeking to make the sound evolve with engine speed rather than produce a uniform rumble.
At low RPMs, the V12 retains the depth and weight of sound expected from an engine of this displacement. But as the RPMs climb, the higher harmonics gradually become more prominent. The exhaust system’s dimensions have been optimized so that this progression results in what Aston Martin describes as a true crescendo.
According to information released about the model, the Valen is said to be about 50% louder than the Vanquish, from which it draws inspiration. Specific attention was also paid to deceleration to enhance the rumble and resonance when the driver releases the accelerator. At a time when many cars use the driver’s speakers to artificially recreate a sound signature, Aston Martin is taking an almost opposite approach here: the acoustics are created mechanically, through the pulsations of the V12, the flow of exhaust gases, the resonance of the tailpipes, and the opening of various valves. The Valen’s most spectacular audio system is therefore likely located behind its bumper.

110 kg lighter to let the V12 shine
Of course, the Valen isn’t just about its exhaust system. Aston Martin has also extensively reworked the Vanquish platform to reduce its weight by 110 kg. Carbon fiber, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium are used extensively. Notably, the 21-inch wheels are made of magnesium to reduce unsprung mass. An optional weight-reduction pack goes even further with solid-machined suspension arms and knuckles, as well as titanium chassis bolts. This package alone shaves off an additional 16.9 kg.
The Valen also features Bilstein DTX semi-active dampers, carbon ceramic brakes measuring 410 mm in the front and 360 mm in the rear, and specially developed Pirelli tires. These tires incorporate Cyber Tyre technology, which transmits information about their performance directly to the car to adjust the ABS, ESP, and traction control in real time. The Sport, Sport+, and Track modes, meanwhile, adjust throttle response, electronic aids, and the car’s overall handling. In Track mode, Aston Martin employs a more progressive throttle response to provide greater precision when the driver is pushing the limits of traction.

An Aston Martin with a deliberately more aggressive look
This pursuit of emotion is also reflected in a body style that is significantly more flamboyant than that of the very elegant Vanquish. The Valen retains the traditional design of a long hood paired with a rear-set cockpit but features much more angular lines. The body is made entirely of carbon fiber. The front features a massive splitter, extremely slim headlights, and numerous vents designed to channel or extract air. Vortex generators are positioned along the trailing edge of the sills to control the airflow beneath the car and generate downforce without resorting to a massive rear spoiler.
The rear is even more spectacular. Aston Martin has simply done away with the traditional rear window. It has been replaced by a large, solid tailgate that incorporates an aerodynamic wing, requiring the driver to use a digital rearview mirror powered by cameras. Despite this radical transformation, the Valen retains a 170-liter trunk and can even accommodate specifically designed luggage. A protective cover is included to prevent damage to the paint when loading luggage near the particularly hot upper exhaust pipes.

A supercar designed to stir emotions
With the Valen, Aston Martin isn’t really trying to win the numbers game. An electric hypercar will accelerate faster, and a race car will inevitably be more efficient on the track. The British automaker prefers to capitalize on something much harder to replicate: the mechanical drama of a V12—its vibrations, the rise in RPM, the gear shifts, the rumble during deceleration, and now these four tailpipes, two of which are specifically tuned to function as acoustic resonators.

The Valen therefore becomes almost as much a musical instrument as it is a car. A very unique instrument for sure—capable of producing 850PS and exceeding 340 km/h—but one whose primary function is ultimately to transform gasoline into decibels. This extravagance will remain exceptionally rare. Aston Martin plans to produce only 150 units worldwide, with a price tag of around $2 million. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
