CES 2023: 1st OLED TV with wireless 4K transmission

Officially presented at CES 2023, the 2.5m (97″) LG OLED M3 is the Korean manufacturer’s first wireless TV. The screen is connected only to the mains and receives image and sound through the accompanying transmitter box. The LG OLED M3 television should be available by the second half of this year.

With Zero Connect technology, there are no more cables between the sources and the screen!

LG OLED M3: Zero Connect

LG has named its proprietary wireless technology Zero Connect. It is an RF technology that transmits audio and video content at up to 4K/120 Hz between the Zero Connect box and the TV screen.

The box has all the necessary connections to connect a video game console, a Blu-ray player or an AV network player. This design allows the M3 TV to be placed in your living room without the clutter of nearby cables and electronics. The supplied transmitter box and the sources can be hidden in a piece of furniture.

LG assures that the wireless connection has been designed so that other devices in the same room will not interfere with the TV’s Zero Connect transmission. The range of the wireless link would be a maximum of 9 meters. LG also claims that this technology is very stable and three times faster than Wi-Fi 6.

LG OLED M3: Lifestyle TV

The design of the LG OLED M3 is inspired by the LG OLED Posé. Its large, relatively thin screen is mounted on two legs, like a painting on an easel, with a passage for the power cable in one of the legs. The screen also has a built-in wall mount bracket that allows it to be wall mounted if you wish.

Black in color, the Zero Connect box adopts a very simple cubic design and is rather discreet. It includes a voice recognition function for hands-free control if you don’t want to use the supplied remote control.

Like the LG OLED Posérange, the LG OLED M3 screen is mounted on two legs, like a painting on an easel, with a passage for the power cable in one of the legs.

OLED Evo, Alpha 9 Gen 6, Dolby Vision/Atmos, 4K 120Hz

The LG OLED M3 is technically quite similar to the LG OLED G3 with which it shares the same OLED Evo display, even brighter than the previous generation LG OLED G2. The new Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor is also on board and HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are supported.

The Zero Connect box’s connectivity includes three 4K/120Hz compatible HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB ports, an Ethernet network jack, a TV antenna jack, an SPDIF optical audio output, and a mini-jack audio input. Suitable for gaming, the LG OLED M3 is VRR compatible and Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync certified.

Always at the forefront of technology, with the OLED M3, LG offers a major evolution in the world of OLED TV 4K 120Hz. If Zero Connect wireless transmission lives up to its promise, it could well become the norm in the years to come. This LG OLED M3 range should be available in 77″, 83″ and 97″. The manufacturer has not yet communicated the prices of the different models.
