Our expert’s opinion
Extremely versatile, easy to power and capable of filling a large living space with sound, the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G speaker succeeds in offering an exciting experience at a price that's still affordable. Behind its elegant, relatively compact design lies a speaker capable of delivering astonishing energy and sonic breadth, with bass that's worthy of much larger models. Its ability to go very low, while retaining speed, impact and control, is undoubtedly one of its main strengths.
But beyond a simple demonstration of power, the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G speaker manages to maintain excellent overall coherence, with a natural, rich midrange that is very pleasant with vocals, and smooth, detailed highs that always favor listening comfort over excessive analysis. A lively, generous speaker that confirms that the Bronze series remains more than ever an essential entry point into Monitor Audio's world of high fidelity.

Iconic and best-selling in the Monitor Audio range, the Bronze series reaches new heights with this completely redesigned seventh generation. The flagship model of this new range, the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G, concentrates the British manufacturer’s latest evolutions, starting with new 15 cm C-CAM drivers optimized to offer greater extension, impact and control in the bass. They are associated with the famous 25 mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter, now equipped with a UD Waveguide II for improved soundstage dispersion, precision and coherence. With a power handling capacity of 150 W, an extended response down to 34 Hz and a price tag of €1,249, this one-meter-high floorstander promises first-rate performance at a very competitive price.
Presentation
Design
The Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G floorstanding speaker remains true to the modern, minimalist aesthetic of its predecessor. Its slender, one-meter-high silhouette lends it an assertive visual presence without ever appearing imposing. Proportions are particularly well controlled, with a relatively narrow front panel that is 26 cm wide, making it easy to integrate into a living room while helping to limit diffraction effects. The design is minimalist, with straight lines and clean edges. On the front, the tweeter, protected by a metal grille with a hypnotic hexagonal pattern, blends harmoniously into the waveguide, while the silver-plated midbass drivers reinforce the speaker’s premium appearance.

For a more discreet integration, the drivers can be hidden by the included acoustic cover. Here, Monitor Audio has departed from traditional rectangular grilles with a curved cut-out at the bottom, bringing a touch of originality and a certain visual lightness, contrasting with the rigidity of the straight lines of the cabinet. Its magnetic mounting system eliminates any visible notches, ensuring a clean, uncluttered front panel when the cover is removed.

The cabinet testifies to the manufacturer’s attention to detail. Monitor Audio uses a multi-ply front panel with real wood veneer, combined with thick, rigid panels to limit vibrations. This structure contributes directly to the precision of the reproduction by avoiding undesirable coloration. The through-mounting technology, which secures the drivers to the rear of the cabinet via bolts, further enhances this structural rigidity by holding the drivers firmly against the cabinet, thereby reducing unwanted mechanical resonance whilst improving operational stability of the cones at high volume. The whole unit benefits from a very high standard of build quality, with precise fittings and an excellent finish. The sides of the cabinet are finished in a vinyl covering available in satin white, black or walnut with a black front panel to ensure it blends seamlessly into any interior.

The cabinet is bass-reflex loaded, with a double rear port. The latter feature proprietary HiVe II (High Velocity) technology, with a ribbed profile specifically designed to accelerate and smooth the airflow. This design effectively limits turbulence and flow noise, while improving responsiveness and bass response. Because of this rear bass-reflex enclosure, there needs to be some space in between the speaker and the wall in order to enjoy its full potential. In most living rooms, a distance of around 15 to 30 cm is a sound basis for avoiding bass overload and to open up the soundstage. If this distance is impossible to achieve, Monitor Audio supplies foam plugs with the speakers to block the ports. In this case, the manufacturer recommends blocking only one port to reduce bass energy and resonance while maintaining good extension.

Note from the expert Plugging the ports helps reduce bass "boom", sometimes called resonance, and helps drivers perform at their best when the speaker is placed close to the rear wall. This boom is generally caused when the bass energy of the driver stimulates the room's resonance modes, causing accentuation at one or several frequencies. When plugs are installed, the overall bass extension is preserved, but the energy around the tuning frequency of the port will be diminished. This has the effect of reducing unwanted resonance while increasing the clarity and apparent agility of the bass.
Finally, the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G rests on four aluminum feet that give the speaker an airy appearance while ensuring perfect stability. The height of each foot is individually adjustable to easily compensate for uneven floors, while the supplied spikes ensure optimum decoupling. Assembly of the feet requires a little patience, however, with two different Allen keys and small screws that are a bit fiddly.

2.5-channel architecture
The Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G floorstanding speaker features a 2.5-way design centered around a pair of 15 cm C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium) drivers, the manufacturer’s signature feature. This ceramic-coated metal cone boasts exceptional rigidity and lightness, guaranteeing near-perfect movement. This generation features a number of significant evolutions. The drivers benefit from enlarged voice coils, up from 25 mm to 28.5 mm, for improved power handling and far greater bass extension. The magnet motor is also strengthened for improved responsiveness and dynamics, while the new, wider surround optimizes linearity. This ensures more precise control in both the bass and midrange.

In this 2.5-way design, the two 15 cm drivers cover slightly different frequency ranges. The first acts as a true midbass driver and handles the bass as well as the midrange up to the crossover frequency with the tweeter, set at 2.6 kHz. The second driver, meanwhile, is primarily dedicated to reinforcing low frequencies and operates only below 470 Hz. This division optimizes the speaker’s performance across the entire audible spectrum by minimizing interference.
The C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter, the brand’s sonic and visual signature since the early 1980s, continues its evolution with a new, even more accomplished generation. This 25 mm ceramic-coated aluminum-magnesium alloy dome is thinner, lighter and more rigid than that of the previous Bronze 6G series. This design improves mechanical behavior by limiting high-frequency deformation phenomena. It is now housed within a UD Waveguide II (Uniform Dispersion) whose profile has been designed to optimize high-frequency dispersion over a wide area and improve temporal alignment with the midbass drivers.

Monitor Audio has also added a new compression ring to reduce surface distortion of the tweeter dome, and an optimized rear-chamber ventilation system. The latter improves acoustic pressure management, particularly in the sensitive 2-3 kHz zone, enabling the tweeter to maintain precision and fluidity even at high volume.
The crossover of Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G speakers has undergone extensive optimization to ensure perfect coherence between the different drivers. Monitor Audio explains that it has devoted hundreds of hours of listening and measuring to the development of this new generation, with each circuit component carefully selected to preserve phase, dynamics and signal purity across the entire audible spectrum. This crossover is combined with a double pair of metal terminals compatible with banana plugs, spades and wide gauge cables.

This acoustic architecture enables the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G to offer an extended frequency response from 34 Hz to 30 kHz (+/- 6 dB), which is quite reasonable for a speaker of this size. Despite a sensitivity of 88 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, the Bronze 300 7G remains relatively easy to power. Its good power handling (150 W RMS) means it can be combined with small amplifiers of at least 40 W, as well as with more ambitious electronics capable of fully harnessing its dynamic potential.
Listening conditions
We tested the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G speakers in Son-Vidéo.com’s Paris Est store. To determine their personality and adaptability, we paired them with amplifiers with very different signatures. They were put to the test with the Elipson P1 and A2700 (400 W RMS at 8 ohms), which has a large current reserve, as well as with the Cayin Jazz 90 KT88 tube amplifier (2 x 50 W at 8 ohms), appreciated for its soft tones. We also paired them with the more neutral Yamaha R-N2000A (90 W RMS into 8 ohms) and the prestigious Cayin Soul 170i tube amplifier with 130 watts per channel. The chosen source was an Eversolo network player, used to play FLAC and DSD Hi-Res files stored on the local network, as well as to access our Qobuz playlists.

Listening impressions
The Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G floorstanding speaker is surprising in terms of the scale and, above all, the energy it is capable of delivering, given its relatively compact size. The bass is particularly generous and reproduced with a physical presence rarely found in this format. On certain very dynamic tracks, we even initially thought that a subwoofer was still connected to the amplifier, as the foundation and depth seemed so substantial.
But beyond the power, it is above all the quality of this range that impresses. The two 15cm drivers are capable of going very low whilst maintaining excellent responsiveness. On the Foo Fighters’ track The Pretender, the bass drum hits were crisp, with bass notes starting and stopping instantly, bringing plenty of rhythm and dynamism to the listening experience. Even as the track built in intensity and distorted guitars filled the soundstage, the Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G maintained perfectly clear bass, with no muddiness or masking effect on the rest of the spectrum. On the bass line of Chris Jones’ Long After You’re Gone, the notes descended with depth and density while retaining excellent texture. The vibrations of the strings were clearly perceptible, as were the nuances of intensity in each attack.

The Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G strikes a particularly successful balance between physical impact and refinement. All the energy generated by the bass is complemented by a more composed and mellow midrange. Vocals are beautifully defined, with plenty of presence and a very convincing sense of naturalness. On Anette Askvik’s Liberty, the singer’s voice was reproduced with great softness and delicacy. The Bronze 300 7G captured the reverberations and the very airy atmosphere of the recording with finesse. The saxophone accompanying the end of the track was superbly textured, with a very realistic breath. The openness of the soundstage allowed the instruments to breathe perfectly, contributing to the track’s refined and relaxing atmosphere.
The C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter delivers soaring highs with great fluidity and a feeling of openness. Cymbals, reverberations and string harmonics enjoy excellent clarity, without ever becoming aggressive or artificially emphasized. The Bronze 300 7G favors comfortable listening over an ultra-analytical approach. Lovers of a surgically precise sound reproduction may therefore find a slight lack of micro-detail in the extreme treble compared with some of the more demonstrative or rising speakers. But this choice also contributes greatly to the pleasant character of this Monitor Audio. On Nils Lofgren’s Keith Don’t Go, acoustic guitar strings were reproduced with great finesse, while resonances and audience applause were given a lovely sense of space. The UD Waveguide II clearly contributes to this airy feel.

Monitor Audio Bronze 300 7G vs Q Acoustics 5040
